On Saturday, August 29th, 2015, Officers of the Wynne Police Department arrested 20 year old Justin Roshud Smith on suspicion of rape and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Officers of the Wynne Police Department were notified that a 10 year old victim being treated at an area hospital was found to be pregnant. Detective Rolland Geror, Sgt. Daniel Getchell and Patrolman Brodie Faughn, assisted by the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division began an investigation.
As a result of the investigation, suspect Justin Smith was taken into custody and subsequently charged with 3 Counts of rape and one count of endangering the welfare of a minor. Rape is a class Y felony punishable with not less than 10 years and not more than 40 years imprisonment, or life. Rape involving a victim of less than 14 years of age carries a minimum term of 25 years imprisonment.
Justin Smith had an initial appearance before the Cross County District Court on Monday, August 31st, 2015. Bond was set at $500,000 and the case was bound over to the Cross County Circuit Court. Justin Smith will appear before the Circuit Court on Friday, October 2nd, 2015 for plea and arraignment.
